Camp Leader - Muskoka 2023

Camp leaders play an essential role in the day to day activities of Wake Hui Camps - Muskoka. They are curators of fun and spread good vibes wherever they go!



Date: June-August 2022

Location: Bush’s Watersports Park

Position Type: Seasonal/Contractural

Age Requirement: 16 years or older

Pay Structure: Hourly Rate, Paid Bi-weekly ($16/hour)

Availability: Monday-Friday, 830am-5pm


Role Description:

The Camp Leader will work at Kid and Youth Day Camps, with campers between the ages of 8-17. They will be responsible for daily site set up and clean up to make sure all daily activities are organised. The Camp Leader will meet and greet parents at the start of each camp day during drop off and at the end for camper pick up. The Camp Leader will also have the responsibility of creating and running various team building activities, beach and water games, and the craft centre. Camp Leader's will be supervising campers on an ongoing basis throughout their camp experiences. Additionally, they will prepare and serve the daily snacks and lunch during our mid-day break. They will also be responsible at the end of the day to ensure all equipment, activities, crafts, and the food prep areas are cleaned and organized for the following day.


The Camp Leader will be supported by the Program Coordinator on a day-to-day basis and will have a monumental role in leading, developing and guiding our Leader-In-Training Program (LIT). They will support the training and management of the volunteer team.


Skills Required:

  • Ability to communicate with a wide range of clientele, from kids aged 7-17 and adults/parents.

  • Interact and engage each camper in a friendly and timely manner.

  • Ability to work closely in a team to ensure all activities are organized and supervised throughout the camp day.

  • Strong leadership skills necessary as the Camp Leader is responsible for overseeing and supporting all daily off-water activities.

  • Willingness to take risks and show initiative as they will be running the camp programming and supporting the LIT volunteers to help develop their leadership skills.

  • Decision making and problem solving skills are important to troubleshoot issues that may arise throughout the day, making timely, effective decisions to ensure the integrity of the camp program and camper experience is maintained.

  • Strong swimming skills as components of the day take place in the inflatable aqua park.


Qualifications:

  • Completion of the Wake Hui Training Program (after successful completion of the above qualification and interview)

  • Prior camp/LIT experience is an asset

  • First Aid and CPR certification is an asset
